Minaker's Greenhouses
History of Minaker's Flower Centre and Greenhouses: Harold Minaker was in the greenhouse business in Picton until he and his wife, Elva moved to Kingston in the late 1930's so Harold could take up the position of area gardener for the Department of National Defense. They built a greenhouse in the early 1940's for Elva to run, and things pretty much "grew" from there! We moved to our present site on Highway #2 east, (just past CFB Kingston), in the early 1950's and built a full sized greenhouse. Their son, Ron, joined the business in 1955 and there began a slow expansion of greenhouses throughout the 1960's & '70's. In 1985 Ron's children David & Traci joined the business and a full service flower shop was built on site. The following year a 10,000 square foot greenhouse was put up, bringing our total greenhouse area to just a shade under an acre. A few years ago Ron's son-in-law (another David!) joined the firm, so we have a true family business in every sense of the word!
